According to the Government drug regulators, around 60 drugs in specific batches of popular painkillers, antibiotics and anti-allergy drugs have failed quality tests. The drugs are declared as ‘not of standard quality, spurious, adulterated, or misbranded.’

Some of the drugs included are Combiflam, which combines paracetamol and ibuprofen and is prescribed for relief of pain and fever; D-Cold, a medicine for relief from colds; Cetrizine, an anti-allergy medicine and antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, etc.

Combiflam and D-Cold failed due to ‘disintegration‘, while ofloxacin failed in ‘assay’ or quantitative tests for their ingredients.

The 60 drugs have been labeled substandard, due to poor manufacturing processes, poor transportation or storage and handling along the distribution chain.
