Rohan Bopanna – Gabriela Dabrowski win Mixed Open

The mixed open team consisting of Rohan Bopanna (37) and Gabriela Dabrowski (25) won the Roland Garros in Paris on Thursday. Bopanna is being described as a 37-year-old veteran, who is a late bloomer.

Bopanna first reached a major finals in 2010 when he was in the US Open finals against Bryan brothers, which he lost. Getting back in a final after seven years of effort, and finally winning it, his first Grand Slam title, is a major achievement.

Although at the start of the tournament, the team lost their first set 2-6 against Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah, they finally won the next two sets 6-2 and 12-10.

According to Bopanna his strategy of serving and staying back, rather than serving and volleying, contributed a big part in this win, along with the fresh and aggresive strokes from his teammate Gabriela.

Notre Dame attacker; No deaths

An Algerian student, acting alone, hailed “This is for Syria”, and attacked a Police officer in the Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris. The man attacked the police officer with a hammer and was then wounded by the other Police officers who came to the rescue.

The cathedral was sealed off by the police after the incident.

France has been under a state of emergency after an increase in terrorism activities since early 2015, which has taken lives of more than 230 people in the country. Seeing military roaming in tourist places along with the police is a common sight now.

1 policeman killed in Paris by IS

A french policeman was shot dead and two others were wounded in central Paris on Thursday night in an attack carried out days before presidential elections and was quickly claimed by the Islamic State militant group. The assailant was later shot dead by the Police.

The attack occured around 9 pm, when a man stopped his vehicle next to a police car. He got out of his vehicle, and shot straight at the police man six times. According to the Islamic State news agency, Amaq news, the attacker was named Abu Yousif al-Belgiki.

The police found out that he was a 39 year old French national, who had been known for previous violent crimes.

The Anti-immigration National Front Leader Marine Le Pen repeated her call for Europe’s partly open borders to be closed.

It is strange, the questions are baffling. Whether a government should close it’s border to protect it’s citizens. But many of the terrorists attack are carried out by the residents of the country, who have been attracted by the stupid ideals of IS.
