French President Macron met Vladimir Putin on Monday, on the 300th anniversary of a visit to Versailles by tsar Peter the Great. The handshake this time was much warmer, compared to Macron’s handshake with Donald Trump recently.

Macron said that they disagree on a number of things but at least it was discussed. The topmost priority is the fight against terrorism and eradication of Daesh (IS) in particular. He also mentioned that Syrian use of chemical weapons will be a red line, and France will give an immediate response to such an event.

Putin also shrugged off allegations that Russian hackers infiltrated Macron’s campaign. He also seemed to have promised Macron to give the the ‘whole truth’ about an alleged crackdown on gay men in Russian-controlled Chechnya.

You remember right? IS = Illiterate Souls

This is a firm stand by French President Emmanuel Macron. And it is nice to see such a leader appear on the podium. I wish he stays the same throughout his term and change European policies for the better.

Israel strikes a Syrian airport

#Israel #Syria #airport #missile #MiddleEast #incident

Israeli warplanes stuck a weapons supply hub operated by Lebanese group Hezbollah near Damascus airport on Thursday, targeting arms sent from Iran in commercial and military cargo aircraft. The Israel media said that anti-aircraft missiles intercepted a target, what appeared to be an unmanned drone, over the Golan Heights. This was the second Israeli interception of a target coming from Syria.

Israeli missiles hit a military position southwest of an airport east of Damascus, which caused explosions and material losses. Intelligence Minister Israel Katz said that the incident in Syria corresponds completely with Israel’s policy to act to prevent Iran’s smuggling of advanced weapons via Syria to Hezbollah.

Hezbollah is a close ally of Syria and Tehran, and an enemy of Israel. Israel describes Hezbollah as a group to be the biggest threat to Israeli borders.

#271Blacklist #US #Syria #chemicalAttack #politics #SSRC #saringas

The US government put 271 Syrian chemists and other officials on its financial blacklist Monday, punishing them for their presumed role in the deadly chemical weapons attack on a rebel-held town in early April.

The treasury department also targeted Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC), which is suspected of developing the sarin gas used in the April 4 attack which left 87 dead including children.

The assets, located in the United States, of these 271 individual will be frozen, and the blacklisting also blocks any American person/business to deal with the individuals.

This is a good action against such individuals involved in such cowardly/terrorist activities. But what is after this?

Babies named after Putin in Syria

#Russia #Syria #BasharAssad #babies #VladimirPutin #IS #military

Syrian families are naming their children Putin as a mark of gratitude for the Russian President’s support for his Syrian couterpart in the six-year war, a government official said.

Not only that, Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad has also made Russian the second language in Syria in a show of showing gratitude for Russian efforts. He also donated land near Damascus for a Russian ‘school’ to be built.

Russian military and jets have helped Syria quite a bit through it’s war against IS. Russia even opposed the UN move of censuring Damascus for a chemical attack on a village earlier this month that had been blamed on Bashar Al-Assad.

A deadly explosion at an evacuation point killed more than 100 people, including children, government supporters and opposition fighters. The blast happened in the al-Rashideen area. A number of vehicles caught fire due to the blast.

Since no one claimed the responsibility of the blast, government media and the opposition exchanged accusations pointing to conspiracies undermining the transfer deal. State TV al-Ikhbariya said the attack was the result of a car bomb carrying food aid to be delivered to the evacuees in the rebel-held area.

According to Abdul Hakim Baghdadi, an interlocutor who helped the government negotiate the evacuations, 140 were killed in the attack. He added it was not clear how many rebels were killed.

Why. Just one after another, incidents are happening in Syria and 50 plus people are killed everytime. What is this? What can anyone accomplish from killing children?

Just in 2011, President Bashar Assad’s rule reduced the residents of Madaya and Zabadani to hunting rodents and eating tree leaves. Photos of children gaunt with hunger shocked the world. And Russia supports this government? What the Hell.

Ivanka Trump influenced Syria missile decision

According to an interview with Eric Trump, it is believed that his sister, the newly appointed West Wing adviser, Ivanka Trump, encouraged Donald Trump to carry out a strike against the Syrian President.

Ivanka is a mother of three kids and she has influence. I’m sure she said: ‘Listen, this is horrible stuff’. A chemical weapons attack by the Syrian government left more than 80 dead, including children, in Syrian town of Khan Sheikhoun.

The day after the attack, Ivanka Trump had tweeted that the current times call for difficult decisions, and she is proud of her father for refusing to accept the horrendous crimes against humanity.

US launches missiles on Syria

US President Trump retaliated for the gruesome poison gas attack at Khan Shaykhun against Syria by ordering the Pentagon to launch dozens of cruise missiles against an airfield in central Syria. Trump stated, “Tonight I ordered a targeted military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched. It is in this vital national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.”

Two US Navy destroyers patrolling in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, fired roughly 60 Tomahawk missiles, well out of range of Syrian air defenses. A Tomahawk missile carries an approximate load of 1,000 lbs, and cruises at a speed of 550 mph. Only the Shayrat military airfield was targeted, since it was used as the launch point of the Tuesday lethal gas attack in Idlib Province.

The strike was designed so that minimum casualty was caused and the Russian military operating at Shayrat was warned ahead of time, so that they could easily avoid the missiles. A statement added that US has no plans for additional strikes now, however this depends on the action of Syria’s government.

This airstrike was more like a warning to Syria, as anyone can understand, since it minimized casualties and most of the damages caused was temporary. It’s your move Syria, I wish you destroy all your chemical weapons for the safety of your own citizens.

Dozens killed in Chemical attack

#victims #Syria #BasharAssad #chemicalAttack #Russia #US

A chemical weapons attack in the town of Khan Sheikhoun is believed to have killed at least 58 people, which did include 11 children. People were gasping for breath and convulsing in the streets and overcrowded hospitals. Witnesses said that the chemical weapon was carried out by Sukhoi jets operated by the Russian and Syrian governments.

Volunteer medics used fire hoses to wash the chemicals from victims’ bodies, many of which were stripped to the underwear. The attack reminded people of a 2013 chemical assault that left hundreds dead and was the worst in the country’s ruinous six-year civil war.

Donald Trump, US President, denounced it as a ‘heinous’ act that “cannot be ignored by the civilized world.”

Syrian government tried to reject the claims that it was responsible, and said that it does not posses any chemical weapons, hasn’t used them ever and won’t be using them in the future. The Russian defense ministry said the Khan Sheikhoun residents were exposed to toxic agents from a rebel arsenal hit by a Syrian air strike.

This was the third claim of a chemical attack in just over a week in Syria. The previous two were reported in Hama province, in an area not far from Khan Sheikhoun.

It will take 4 to 5 decades to clean up weapons in Iraq, Syria

#Iraq #Syria #IS #terrorism #war #UN #explosives #international

Due to the mines, improvised devices and other unexploded ordnance, in Iraq and Syria, spread across the region, it might take at least 40 to 50 years for the two countries to be cleared of the weapons.

Even in the post-World War II countries in Europe, sometimes unexploded ordnance is found till this day. Hence, the threats and changes of war can never be fully reversed.

Agnes Marcaillou, director of the UN Mine Action Service said that around $170 million to $180 million will be used per year to clean up the areas, and this includes a $50 million per year charge to just make Mosul safe, which is still held by Islamic State extremists. (This means, that for a total of 40 years, the cost can mount to be more than $5 billion).

#Israel #Syria #IS #terrorism #airstrikes #Russia #US #civilians

More than 42 people were killed and wounding more than a hundred in an air strike by unidentified warplanes on a village mosque in Aleppo province. The attack happened during evening prayers and most of the casualties were civilians. The village is held by rebel and Islamist groups, but no jihadist factions are present.

Abu Muhammed, a village resident, said that he saw 15 bodies and a lot of body parts in the debris when he arrived at the scene.

An AFP reporter at the scene said rescuers earlier left the wreckage site but were forced to double back when they heard moaning coming from the debris.

The skies over Aleppo are often busy with Syrian and Russian warplanes as well as US-led coalition aircraft carrying out air strikes. Russia has often denied allegations of civilian deaths in its strikes, whereas US-led coalition said earlier this month that at least 220 civilians had been unintentionally killed in its raids in Iraq and Syria.
