Britain threat level ‘critical’

#UK #Britain #PrimeMinister #TheresaMay #terrorism #bombings #military

British Prime Minister, Theresa May, raised the national threat to ‘critical’, invoking the highest rating in Britain’s alert level. This will allow thousands of British troops to take to the streets, and important locations will be secured by them instead of police officers.

The military will guard public events such as concerts, sports matches, etc. in fears that the attacker of the Manchester Arena bombing might have accomplices, and the actual disaster might be far from over.

The attack in Manchester Arena was carried out by a British citizen, Salman Abedi (22), and killed 22 people, mostly teenagers including one girl only eight years old.

Currently, the highest priority for the police is to know whether Abedi was acting alone or had accomplices, and whether this was one of the attacks planned in a sequence of attacks.

Whoever they are, I wish they are caught as soon as possible. Hurting people? And in fact, hurting children/teenagers is horrific. Not even their God or ‘Allah’, in whose name they commence violence, can welcome such acts of horror.

Terror attack in Manchester

#terrorism #incident #Manchester #UK #ArianaGrande #concert #suicidebomber #explosion

People heard two loud bangs coming from the Manchester Arena’s bars at about 10:35 pm. As the Ariana Grande concert was going on, the explosions occurred sending people running towards the exit. As many as 19 people are believed to have been killed and more than 50 injured.

Ariana Grande, a teenage idol, was reported to be shocked and at a loss of words after the incident. She tweeted “Broken. From the bottom of my heart, I am so so sorry. I don’t have words.” Let’s try to show our support to her, and ask her to not blame herself for any of this. Please.

US officials said that the attacks were similar to Bataclan concert hall in November 2015. The choice of venue, the timing and the mode of attack all suggest this was terrorism.

This is the second terror incident in UK this year, the first one happening in March when a man rammed a car into pedestrians on London’s Westminster Bridge killing four people.

Please pray for rest for those who died, and speedy recovery for the injured.

This is insane. How can we counter this? I wish there was an effective strategy.

UK general election 17

#UK #election #TheresaMay #ConservativeParty #Democrats #HouseofCommons

According to the opinion polls, Conservative party can expect a resounding victory in a general election, and thus increase its presence in the House of Commons. This is one reason why Theresa May is confident enough to call for a general election on June 8, 2017, even though there are 3 years left for her term.

However, people argue that Opinion polls have not always been accurate when tight contests have been held – as the EU referendum and the latest US presidential election exemplified. The enormity of the proposed gaps between Labor and the Conservatives in these polls suggests that, even if the margin of victory is not accurate, the Conservative party will increase its majority.

Tim Farron, leader of Liberal Democrats, who was defeated in the 2015 vote, was delighted with the announcement of a general election. The coming weeks will be filled with political uncertainty, claim and coutner-claim.

I understand Prime Minister Theresa May’s reasoning, to get more people to support her and increase the presence in the House of Commons. But who knows where it goes from here.

Four people and the attacker were killed, while 40 others were injured in a shocking attack on the iconic Westminster Bridge in London. The attacker used a car to run down several pedestrians, killing four people and leaving many more with severe injuries. The driver then rammed the car into the Parliament fence and fatally stabbed a police officer as he tried to enter the building. The attacker was shot dead by the cops when he tried to enter the building.

Among the injured were French high school students, two Romanian tourists, five South Korean visitors, police officers and a woman who jumped in the Thames river to avoid the car.

The police confirmed that there was only one attacker, however they are still looking for any possible leads.

Oh, and on the contrary (also as should be expected), Mr. Trump Jr. took it to twitter on criticizing Mayor Sadiq Khan just two hours after the attack. He was immediately supported by some people, but many more defended the Mayor and insisted that his Muslim identity would not be a factor as the city comes to grips with the incident. Read here.

I am surprised, what possible motivation can any person have to kill innocent citizens, or students! I can’t comprehend the attacker for this stupid and disgusting attack. You are a coward to do things you want, things you desire the right way, and then you resort to such tactics.

Kindly pray for the deceased, and wish speedy recovery to the injured.

UK Cruise ship damages Indonesian coral reef

#UK #cruise #Indonesia #environment #coralReef

A British-owned cruise ship smashed a part of the Indonesian coral reefs, causing extensive damage to one of the world’s most biodiverse marine habitats. The restoration cost of the damage is believed to be as high as $16.2 million, according to a marine researcher.

Raja Ampat in eastern Indonesia has long been a top attraction for intrepid travelers and avid divers, home to palm-fringed islands surrounded by an underwater kaleidoscope of coral and fish.

Unfortunately, the 4,200 ton Caledonian Sky slammed into the reefs at low tide. It was carrying 102 passengers and 79 crew members at the time. The ship went into an area that it should not have entered due to the unique coral reefs.

In fact, local search and rescue officials said that they went to help the ship and wanted the passengers to evacuate immediately. But one of the passengers and the captain of the ship asked for a tug boat so that the ship could be pulled out of the area, which in turn caused even more damage to the reef. (Really people?!)

The Indonesian government said it was assessing the impact and would seek compensation from the operator.

Faster and efficient computers?

#research #technology #computers #UK #microfluidics

Researchers form the University of Exeter in the UK have developed an innovative new method to engineer computer chips more easily and cheaper than conventional methods.

Optoelectronic materials, devices that produce, detect and control light, that form an integral part of the next generation of renewable energy, security and defense technologies could benefit a great deal from this discovery.

The research team used microfluidics technology, which uses a series of minuscule channels in order to control the flow and direction of tiny amounts of fluid. The fluid contains graphene oxide flakes, that are mixed together in the channels, to construct the chips.

During the campaign for French elections, candidate Emmanuel Macron visited British Prime Minister Theresa May at her Downing Street office and also met Finance minister Philip Hammond later. He told reporters that, “Brexit cannot lead to a kind of optimisation of Britain’s relationship with the rest of Europe. An exit is an exit.

Macron, aged 39, is running independently. He is a former economy minister in Socialist President Francois Hollande’s government. He was not able to obtain a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel during recent visit to Berlin, and is now keen to improve his standing on the world stage and court voters in London, which has an estimated 200,000 french residents.

He mentioned that he was tired of hearing about French entrepreneurs leaving France and moving to London because of the better growth opportunities and the ease of starting a business. He said his ambition as president was to make France more attractive so such people would stay, or return.
