Trump’s Tax Proposal, is it right?

#Trump #President #WhiteHouse #Taxes #US #corporations #business

According to the a new proposal by the White House, the tax rate for corporations and pass-through business will be reduced to 15 percent. This could be a major windfall for the Trump Organization. As previously noted, Trump has refused to release his tax returns, hence making it impossible to know how much his businesses could save.

Besides this, President Trump also wants to repeal the ‘Alternative Minimum Tax’, a parallel system that kicks in when taxpayers request many itemized deductions and rejects specific deductions, including for assorted real estate write-downs that Trump tapped in past years. This is the tax that raised Trump’s taxes from $7 million to $38 million according to the leaked 2005 tax return of Trump.

Also, dropping the tax rate from 39.6 percent to 15 percent will cost government budgets around $1.5 trillion in a decade, i.e. more than a $150 billion in a single year.

Wow. He is certainly a good businessman, and that’s why too-business minded people can’t run a government, where they have to care for everyone.

No more releasing of White House visitor logs

The Trump administration, an administration already facing questions about its commitment to transparency, won’t be disclosing the names of visitors to the White House due to “grave national security risks and privacy concerns.” The administration mentioned that the information will be revealed in more limited circumstances, under the law to separate agencies such as the Office of Management and Budget.

In the short term, i.e. till President Trump remains in the office, the administration will decide whether it wants to release names of visitors coming to meet with the President, however the information can be made public after Trump leaves office.

President of Every Voice commented that under this policy, big donors, lobbyists and special interests will have a significant influence in the White House.

Under President Obama, the visitor logs were maintained in a White House maintained web page, but the website has gone ‘dark’ since Trump took office. The Administration also commented that the website will no longer be maintained, which in turn will save taxpayers $70,000 by 2020.

A sad day for Trump’s healthcare plan

In a Congress controlled by his own party, Trump faced the first major setback on Friday. Republican leaders pulled legislation to overhaul the US healthcare system. I am sure he understands now that this is not a Business organization but a major political party that supports the country.

Even the desperate lobbying by the White House and the Speaker Paul Ryan, the Healthcare bill was unable to garner the 216 votes it needed to pass. Trump stated ‘We learned a lot about loyalty. We learned a lot about the vote-getting process‘, however he was still trying to shift the blame on the Democrats.

No one really shows any signs of tackling the Obamacare health plan anytime soon, and Trump said that he would turn his attention to getting ‘big tax cuts‘ through Congress.

I really wish that Trump tries a little harder.

CNN, NYT, LA Times, BuzzFeed barred from White House briefing

Trump has often criticized the “fake news” that some news organizations keep spreading around. Reporters from CNN, NYT, Politico, LA Times, BuzzFeed were barred from an off-camera briefing held by the White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Friday. Other organizations like Reuters, Bloomberg, CBS and around 8 others were included in the session.

Off-camera gaggles are not unusual. The White House often invites handpicked outlets in for breifings, typically for specific topics. But briefings and gaggles in the White House are usually open to all outlets and they are free to ask anything.

The White House Correspondents Association (WHCA) also protested against the decisions of the gaggle held by the White House.

The news giant did tweet on Friday afternoon that, “This is an unacceptable development by the Trump White House. Apparently this is how they retaliate when you report facts they don’t like. We’ll keep reporting regardless.

Well, is that right.
